RED RIBBON CLUB

Red Ribbon Clubis a movement started by the Government of India in schools and colleges for awaring the society throughstudents regarding HIV / AIDS, its causes, prevention and issues. Beside this, it also plays an important role in creating awareness regarding blood donation, its importance and developing sense of responsibility of donating blood with an aim to serve the humanity. The mission of this club is to render unconditional help on number of occasions as and whenrequired for needy persons at the time of emergency. The scope of working of this club is not limited to above mentioned activities but also focus on the ill effects of substance abuse amongst the youths. It also focuses on the issues cropping out of ill habits.

The Red Ribbon Club of GDC Udhampur is comprised of both teaching staff and students. RRC is headed by Prof. Jawaid Sarver as a Nodal Officer/Convener and rest five members of RRC are from the teaching fraternity, more than 80 students are associated with this club as active members.

The RRC aims to fulfill the following objectives:

To create awareness and to induce the spirit among youth to help and support people living with HIV/AIDS thereby reducing stigma and discrimination against such persons.
To motivate youth and build their capacity as peer educators and change agents by developing their skills in leadership, negotiation, and team building.
To promote voluntary blood donation among youth.
Educate youth with correct, concise, and adequate information and heighten their level of awareness about HIV/AIDS/STD/sexuality and other related issues (thus eliminating myths and misconceptions).
Enable youth, especially female students, to identify and understand situations of exploitation and abuse.
Sensitize the youth regarding the care and support needs of PLWHA and instill in them the spirit of helping and supporting the people living with HIV & AIDS (PLWHA) and reducing the stigma and discrimination against them.
Increase youthsâ€™ access to health care services related to STI / HIV/AIDS/drug use.
Create linkages between youth and governmental, non - governmental agencies, and CBOs to access safer and responsible healthy behavior.
Organize and facilitate voluntary blood donation camps and mobilize the youth for voluntary blood donation.
